PURPOSE OF THE BOOK: The crowded corridor is written about the struggles and manipulations of political elites who sort for power at all cost. Godwin Akpan shows dexterity that will surpass even tested writers. It is written to enlighten the youth about having their full rights and not allowing those in power to brutalize them; and also aspire for greater height in terms of good governance.
INTRODUCTION
Given the importance of dialogue in contemporary public discourse, it is not surprising that discussions focused on dialogue are increasingly common in academic forums and that the word dialogue occurs more and more frequently in the titles of academic publications. The theme of the 2005 International Communication Conference Questioning the Dialogue is a good case in point. But progress in discussions on this theme is often hampered by semantic confusion and by the lack of clear distinction between the meaning of words as they are used in ordinary language and their idiosyncratic use by intellectuals (philosophers, psychologists, literary scholars, cultural theorists, and so on).
For example, in their abstract presented at the ‘pre-conference’ entitled A Dialogue on Dialogue of the 2005 ICA Conference mentioned above, two prominent scholars and the authors of a book entitled The Martin Buber–Carl Rogers Dialogue: A New Transcript with Commentary (1997), Rob Anderson and Kenneth Cissna write: ‘This presentation describes key elements necessary for understanding the historic 1957 public dialogue of philosopher Martin Buber and psychologist Carl Rogers, each among the foremost 20th century commentators on dialogue in the human condition’.
