Adjunct Faculty – Mathematics at the Nigerian University of Technology and Management (NUTM)

Job Title: Adjunct Faculty – Mathematics

Location: Lagos

Role Overview

  • We invite application-qualified candidates for the position of Adjunct Faculty in Mathematics.
  • As an adjunct faculty member in the Mathematics Department, you will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses in mathematics, conducting research in your area of expertise, and providing mentorship to students. This position is part-time and offers flexibility in scheduling.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Course Development and Instruction:

  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in mathematics, ensuring that the curriculum meets the highest academic standards and aligns with the university’s guidelines.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lectures, discussions, and presentations that promote active learning and facilitate student comprehension and critical thinking.
  • Develop course materials, including syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and assessments, and regularly update them based on current best practices and advancements in the field.
  • Mentorship and student evaluation
  • Assess and evaluate student performance through assignments, exams, projects, and other forms of assessment, providing timely and constructive feedback to support their academic growth.
  • Mentor and advise students, guiding them in their academic and career goals, and providing support and guidance outside of the classroom.

Research and departmental duties:

  • Conduct research in mathematics, contribute to advancing knowledge in your field, and publish research findings in reputable journals or present them at conferences.
  • Stay current with developments in mathematics education, pedagogical techniques, and emerging trends in the field, incorporating them into your teaching practice.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and participate in departmental meetings and committees to contribute to the overall development and enhancement of NUTM’s Mathematics Department.

Preferred Candidate

  • A Doctoral Degree in Mathematics or a closely related field from a recognized university.
  • Strong knowledge and expertise in a specialized area of mathematics.
  • Prior teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex mathematical concepts to students with diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
  • Proficiency in using technology and mathematical software for instruction and research purposes.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to effectively meet deadlines and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment that respects diversity and promotes equity.
  • Active engagement in scholarly activities, such as research publications and conference presentations, is preferred.
  • Membership in relevant professional organizations and societies is an advantage.
